Hey everyone–I apologize for it being sooo long since the last post. I have been up to my ears in school-related ventures.
For now, here is a quick review of a book I received from Blogging for Books.
Stuck in the Middle with You by Jennifer Finney Boylan —well—it needs a re-read I think. To be totally honest, I judge the quality of the book by its first couple of pages–whether or not it reels me in. The beginning of this story, and I can’t really pinpont why, felt like it was all over the place. She was at her son’s fencing tournament talking with another mom about sons, and I felt like she started talking in a bunch of different directions and I couldn’t follow her.
As part of the LGBTQ community and also a strong supporter, I was really excited to read more about a person’s experiences with transitioning. I got that, but so much more, honestly. This book was more about how the author’s transition played a role in parenting, which was pretty fantastic. Without giving anything away, I loved how her children “transitioned”, in a way, along with her, even giving her a special name. Those kids seem like they are so sweet and well-rounded.
For my initial read-through, I give it a 6/10 for not “getting” or liking the way Jennifer talked in the book–very “disjointed”. However, if I read it again, I may give it a higher score knowing that in the next go-round.
I received this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review.
If you love reading ANY kind of book, I highly suggest checking this program out.
